Which softswitch + billing integrations are giving you the least trouble?

We run traffic through a softswitch and the weak point has always been the connection between it and billing: CDR format mismatches, delayed syncing, and balance updates that lag behind live usage.

Things worth checking before choosing a billing system:

  • Is the integration native, or a custom script you have to maintain?
  • How often are CDRs pulled, and what happens if a pull fails?
  • Can it alert you when quality metrics (ASR, ACD) drop?
  • Does it support your platform (Sippy, VOS, PortaOne, FreePBX and others)?

Some billing vendors maintain a wide list of ready-made softswitch integrations, which saves a lot of custom work compared with building your own.

Which combinations are working well for you?

In my experience, the key is how reliably the softswitch and billing system sync CDRs and update balances. Even a good integration can cause problems if failed records are not retried or usage updates are delayed.

I’d prioritize native integration, proper CDR validation, automatic retry mechanisms, and real-time balance updates. It’s also worth testing how the setup handles high call volumes before moving it into production.

For those using Sippy, VOS, or PortaOne, how well does your setup handle failed CDR processing and usage synchronization?
